Outplacement: support towards a new future

What is outplacement?

Outplacement is work-to-work guidance, paid for by your employer and usually recorded in the settlement agreement. It runs three to six months on average and you have one dedicated coach. In Amsterdam we deliberately spend the first stretch on direction: only once it is clear where you want to go do we take it to the market.

Want to see how a programme is built up first? It is set out step by step in what an outplacement programme involves.

What does an outplacement process look like at Care4Careers in Amsterdam?

Our approach in 5 steps

The five steps below form the backbone of every outplacement programme. With your coach you work on self-insight, on applying, on your network and on the way you approach the market. Outplacement thereby offers something to hold on to at a moment when little is settled.

Many people opt for a modular programme: together with your coach you decide where to put the effort. Here you will find our modules.

1

Personal intake

After this conversation you know what the programme involves, who your coach is and which arrangements with your employer apply.

2

Coaching and assessments

After this stage you know what you can do, what drives you and which of your skills are most in demand in Amsterdam.

3

Labour market preparation

After this stage you hold a short list of directions and employers, rather than a long list of vacancies.

4

Job search and networking

After this stage your CV and profile fit this market, and your network knows you are available.

5

Aftercare and guidance

After you start, your coach stays available, precisely for the first months when it becomes clear whether the choice was right.

Different routes towards a new professional perspective

When outplacement is used

Leaving an organisation does not mean you already need to know what comes next. The programme first helps narrow the possibilities.

Restructuring removes your current position

When a role disappears, we examine which parts of your background you want to continue using and what you would prefer to change.

Your fixed-term employment comes to an end

A clear final date allows you to start exploring options before the search becomes urgent.

Outplacement is included in a settlement agreement

A negotiated exit can contain funding for professional career support, giving you structured help in preparing for your next move.

A different workplace becomes necessary after extended absence

If a return is no longer the objective and employment ends, we develop a profile centred on work that now fits you better.

Outplacement in Amsterdam

From work to work, with a direction that holds up

Amsterdam has a broad labour market, but broad does not mean easy. In one field employers are queuing up; in another dozens of candidates are ahead of you. So the programme starts with the question of where your experience is in demand right now, and only then with your CV.

First work out where your experience is in demand

How quickly it goes differs by field and by level. We look first at which employers here suit your background, and what they usually ask for.

Everything is tailored, built from modules

Eight components, of which we deploy only what fits right now. That way you work on what you cannot yet do; the costs are set out in what an outplacement programme costs.

Many roles are filled before they are advertised

At senior level especially, roles go through people who know one another. We map your network and practise how you open that conversation; see networking to find work.

Also when the employer buys in the programme

In a reorganisation the employer arranges the support and the budget sits in the social plan or the settlement agreement. The employee keeps one dedicated coach.

What you are working towards

By the end you have picked one direction out of everything this city offers, and it is one that still holds up in five years.

Your coach in Amsterdam

Who you will be working with

You work with one coach who knows the Amsterdam labour market from the inside and who can guide you in English. No connection? Say so and we arrange someone else, at no extra charge.

Our office

Outplacement in Amsterdam and nearby

Our location in Amsterdam is the Van Eeghenlaan, a side street off the Vondelpark, and our working area runs from the canal belt to well beyond the ring road. What makes this labour market unusual is not a shortage of work. Healthcare, education, professional services and trade are all hiring here, and the better-known side comes on top of that. Choosing is harder than finding, and that holds for the employee as much as for the employer who wants someone to leave well.

Dismissal here rarely means there is no work. It means dozens of directions open up at a moment when you have no head for it. We bring that back to a choice you can survey, so nothing gets accepted out of unease. For the employer the same applies from the other side: a careful departure saves trouble and keeps the remaining team steady.

About Amsterdam

Good to know about Amsterdam

English is not the exception

On many Amsterdam work floors English is the working language. Our coaches operate in both, so international professionals get exactly the same programme as everyone else.

Everyone is looking around

The average Amsterdam career is a series of short contracts. That makes moving easy, and more tempting than it is wise. We test the reason behind the urge.

Van Eeghenlaan, by the Vondelpark

A short cycle from Zuid and the centre, and well served by tram and metro. Anyone who would rather work online simply does.

The region counts

Amstelveen, Diemen, Zaandam, Hoofddorp and Almere belong to the same labour market. A job outside the ring is often quicker to reach than an address on the far side of town.

Direction first, then the labour market

The programme starts with self-insight and orientation, and only then with networking and applying. That order is set out in how an outplacement programme runs.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about outplacement

Recruiters message me all the time. Why would I need a coach?

That is precisely why. Plenty of offers, but a recruiter is choosing for their vacancy, not for your career. A coach helps you decide which of those messages is worth answering.

What if I end up working outside Amsterdam?

That is fine. We look across the whole region and beyond as a matter of course. For some roles a job in Utrecht or Haarlem with a better commute is the wiser choice than an address inside the ring. Knowing what that saves you day to day starts with calculating your transition payment.

Can the programme run entirely in English?

Yes, from intake to aftercare, including CV, LinkedIn and interview practice. Part of our team works in English every day.

What if my employer will not free up a budget?

The cost depends on the content and scope of the programme. Before you start, we make clear which support is included and what the corresponding costs are.

What about my unemployment benefit during the programme?

Outplacement does not count as work and does not affect your benefit. The applications you make within the programme do count towards your obligation to apply.

Where can I find Care4Careers in Amsterdam?

Van Eeghenlaan 27, 1071 EN Amsterdam, beside the Vondelpark. We meet by appointment; tell us in advance what your question is about and we will pair you with the coach who works on it most.

Do you also work outside Amsterdam?

Yes, across the whole region. In practice people travel to us from Amstelveen, Diemen, Zaandam, Hoofddorp, Almere and Haarlem, or we work online.

How quickly will I find something new here?

For many Amsterdam roles the search takes less than the national average. That is exactly why we do not steer on speed: the question is not how fast, but towards what.
