Outplacement: support towards a new future
What is outplacement?
Outplacement goes beyond support with applications alone. Together with a dedicated coach, you identify a direction that fits you and work step by step towards a concrete next move. The employer pays, usually arranged in the settlement agreement or the social plan. What that document says about budget and duration sets the room to manoeuvre, so we look at it before anything is signed.
Want to know how such a programme runs? It is set out in what an outplacement programme involves.
What does an outplacement process look like at Care4Careers in Rotterdam?
Our approach in 5 steps
Five steps, and this is the order in which an outplacement programme works through them: self-insight, application skills, network and labour-market approach. Outplacement thereby returns direction and energy after a dismissal.
Many people opt for a modular programme: together with your coach you decide where to put the effort. Here you will find our modules.
Personal intake
You explain what is going on and what has been agreed with your employer. We say honestly what is achievable in this region and by when.
Coaching and assessments
You get room to process the dismissal. After that, assessments and conversations map what you are good at, including the things that never appeared in your job description.
Labour market preparation
You hold your profile up against actual employers in the region. Not a list of vacancies, but a list of companies and the route towards them.
Job search and networking
You go out with a CV that works in this market, rehearsed interviews and a network that knows you are available.
Aftercare and guidance
You have started and we stay reachable. The first months in a new place are exactly when it helps to have someone to think with.

When the next phase of your career begins
When outplacement is used
Sometimes a role disappears; sometimes departure is jointly agreed. In each case we make the move outside concrete and manageable.
Reorganisation removes your position
If your job disappears, we explore how your existing expertise can be used in other roles or organisations.
Temporary work ends on a known date
Preparation for new employment can begin while you are still working, creating time to assess options carefully.
Departure is arranged jointly
Career transition support can form part of a mutually agreed exit and help prepare your next professional step.
Returning after long-term absence is no longer expected
If employment ends, outplacement can help define a more suitable direction towards work outside the organisation.
Outplacement in Rotterdam
From work to work, with craft that counts
This region has shortages in many sectors at once, so there is work, and often in a corner that has not been looked at yet. Our work therefore starts with translation: turning what someone can actually do into words another employer recognises.
We know the employers here
Our coaches are based in this region and deal with the companies directly. A large share of the vacancies never reaches a job board.
Components you choose yourself
Eight separate components, from the first tests to support after the first day at work. You take only what you need.
One dedicated coach
The same guide from intake to after placement, at the Wijnhaven or fully online. Working with a dedicated coach means that each conversation can build on what has already been discussed.
In English too
In the port and in professional services a procedure regularly runs in English. Our coaches work in both languages, from the CV through to the interview itself.
What you are working towards
You end up in work that matches what you can do and what is sustainable at home.
Who guides you
The coaches at the Wijnhaven
One dedicated coach from intake to after your first day at work, who knows the employers in this region. Meetings next to Blaak or fully online.
Our office
Outplacement in Rotterdam and nearby
Our location in Rotterdam is the Wijnhaven, between Blaak and the Maas. From there we work across the city and the surrounding municipalities. The labour market here is broader than the image of the port suggests: healthcare, education, professional services and trade together offer more work than industry does. What the conversations have in common is therefore not the sector but the question underneath: what can someone do, and where is that in demand.
The trigger for outplacement varies widely here: a reorganisation at a city-centre office, a shrinking department at a technical firm, or a settlement agreement after years in healthcare. The question underneath is always the same. What can this employee do, what do they want, and which employers in this region are looking for that. Employer and employee both benefit: one parts company carefully, the other finds suitable work sooner.
About Rotterdam
Good to know about Rotterdam
Broader than the port
Healthcare, education, professional services and retail together account for most of the jobs in this region. Anyone coming out of industry is hired there more often than they expect.
Fifteen municipalities, one labour market
Schiedam, Vlaardingen, Capelle, Barendrecht, Spijkenisse and Dordrecht all sit within reach of the A15, A16, A20 and the metro network. Changing employer here rarely means moving house.
Wijnhaven, next to Blaak
Tram, metro and train stop around the corner, with car parks a short walk away. Anyone who would rather not travel does the sessions online, and that can be the whole programme.
The trigger sets the route
A reorganisation runs differently from a departure by agreement, and an expiring contract differently again. How much time remains, and what is still open for discussion, follows from that.
What the employer gains
A careful programme saves argument at the point of departure and keeps relations in the remaining team intact. For many employers that is the reason to write it into the settlement agreement.
What a programme costs, and what delay costs
Outplacement runs from 2,000 to 5,000 euro excluding VAT. Set that against the time a drawn-out departure takes and the ratio is usually clear.
From employment to assignments
In this region a relatively large number of people move into self-employment, often for clients they previously worked for. That is a serious route rather than a last resort, but it does require working out in advance what turnover you need to end up in the same place.
One employee or a whole department
In a reorganisation we guide several people at once; outside one we work one to one. Both run through the same components.
The region at a glance
The labour market in Rotterdam
Rotterdam has long run on the port, logistics and manufacturing. Where the openings currently are sits partly alongside that: engineering, construction and healthcare are structurally short of people. That gap often decides which step is realistic.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about outplacement
Who pays for the programme?
Nearly always the employer, through the settlement agreement or the social plan. A programme runs from 2,000 to 5,000 euro excluding VAT. Where you land in between is set by the components: coaching and tests alone sits at the lower end, and adding interview training, job search and aftercare pushes it up. The build-up is set out in what an outplacement programme costs.
How long does a programme take?
Usually three to six months. Two things move the needle: where you start and how many components you take. Someone who knows where they want to go and only needs help getting in is done sooner than someone who has to find a direction first. How the phases follow one another is set out in how an outplacement programme runs.
How far beyond the city do you search?
As standard we cover the whole region, from Schiedam and Vlaardingen to Dordrecht. How far someone is willing to travel we agree in advance, and we hold to that limit afterwards.
Can the support be in English?
Yes. Part of our team guides entirely in English, including the CV, LinkedIn and interview preparation.
How quickly can we start?
Usually within a week of agreement, and we respond to a request within 24 hours. Starting early pays off, because while someone is still employed they are in a stronger position in interviews and have more calm to choose.
Does the employee have any say in what the programme contains?
Yes, and that is rather the point. In the first conversation the coach and the employee go through which of the eight components apply. Someone who already knows where they want to go skips the orientation; someone who does not spends the time there instead. The employer sees the selection in the quote before anything starts, so nobody is surprised later on.
Where can I find Care4Careers in Rotterdam?
Wijnhaven 36, 3011 WS Rotterdam, next to Blaak station. We work by appointment, so call or email ahead and we will line up the right coach.
How far beyond Rotterdam do you travel?
All of Rijnmond and the Drechtsteden. In practice we see people from Schiedam, Vlaardingen, Capelle aan den IJssel, Barendrecht, Spijkenisse and Dordrecht, at our location or online.
We need to support several employees at once. Is that possible?
Yes, and everyone keeps their own selection. The programme consists of eight separate modules, and each employee chooses with their coach which of them apply: one already knows where they want to go and mainly needs help getting in, another has to find a direction first. A group programme with us is therefore not a standard course everyone runs through. How it is set up in practice is described at the modules.
I am considering working for myself. Does that belong in an outplacement programme?
Yes, and it is one of the eight components. We work out what turnover you need, look at which clients are already in your network, and discuss what comes with it in practice: insurance, a buffer, and the first months when nothing comes in yet. If it turns out not to fit, you know that before you resign rather than after. See starting as a freelancer.
My employer wants an agency near their office. Does that matter?
Not for the support itself, which runs through one dedicated coach and can be entirely online. Where it does matter is knowledge of the employers you are aiming for. If you live in this region and want to keep working here, that counts for more than where your employer's office happens to be. If you are from another part of the country, say so, because then we assign a coach who knows the way there.
