Our location in Utrecht is the Nieuwegracht, a ten minute walk from Utrecht Centraal. That station shapes the labour market here more than the city does: almost every intercity passes through, so anyone living in this region is within an hour of an employer in Amsterdam, Den Bosch or Arnhem. Searching within the city limits is therefore a choice rather than a constraint, and that makes the search area wider than people assume.
Outplacement here rarely starts with a bankruptcy. More often with a programme that ends, two departments merging, or an appointment that is not renewed. Everything you need to know about outplacement
I work for a national organisation headquartered here. Does that change anything?
Not for your rights, very much for your search. Large national employers usually have a social plan and an in-house mobility desk. Those two routes run alongside our guidance rather than against it. We agree who does what, so you are not having the same conversation twice.
How far should I be willing to travel?
You decide, we make it explicit. From Utrecht, forty-five minutes already covers Amsterdam, Amersfoort, Gouda and Den Bosch. Stretch it to an hour and the number of vacancies doubles, along with the number of rejections. We work out together what you can sustain alongside the rest of your life.
My CV is full of project names. Is that a problem?
Only if you leave it that way. An employer outside your sector cannot read a project name, but can read what you organised, with how many people and on what budget. We rewrite that and rehearse the conversation about it. See preparing for a job interview.
Who pays for the programme?
In almost every case your employer. The amount depends on the modules you choose and how long the guidance runs; we quote for that in advance. For employers the cost is usually deductible as a business expense. At the bottom of the scale sits 2,000 euro and at the top 5,000, both excluding VAT; in between it builds up with whatever you add.
Can the whole thing run in English?
Yes. Utrecht has a large international workforce at the Science Park and in the consultancies, so English-language coaching is routine here rather than an exception. Written material and interview rehearsals switch across with it.
Where is your Utrecht office?
Nieuwegracht 29, 3512 LD Utrecht, right in the old centre and ten minutes on foot from Utrecht Centraal. Driving in, you can park at the Springweg garage or under Hoog Catharijne. Announce your visit in advance so we can put the right coach in the diary.
Which towns fall within your Utrecht service area?
Nieuwegein, Houten, Zeist, De Bilt, Bilthoven, Maarssen, Woerden and Vianen all count, and Amersfoort is comfortably reachable from here. Rather not travel? Part of the sessions can run over video, and then distance stops mattering.
My temporary appointment at a research institute is not being renewed. Am I entitled to outplacement?
Not automatically, though more is negotiable than most people assume. When a temporary contract simply expires you are still entitled to a transition payment, even after a short period of service. On top of that, many Utrecht institutions run their own career schemes. Ask HR about them well before your end date comes into view.
