What is a feasibility study for second track reintegration?

A feasibility study helps determine whether it makes sense to start a second track process. The research carefully maps out whether an employee is mediable towards appropriate work outside their own organization. This prevents unnecessary costs, loss of time or wage penalties.

Why use a feasibility study?

A feasibility study is often carried out when there is doubt about the chances of success of a second track route. For example:

  • If the employment expert study shows that reintegration within your own organization is no longer feasible
  • In the event of a proposed WIA application
  • To substantiate that it is not (yet) useful to start track 2
  • In case of suspicion of permanent disability (80— 100%)

Both employers and health services use the research to make legally substantiated choices and to limit risks towards the UWV.

What are the benefits of a feasibility study?

A professionally conducted feasibility study provides several concrete benefits:

  • Cost savings: Prevents unnecessary investment in a hopeless process
  • Insight into resilience and opportunities: Clear picture of personal and functional reintegration opportunities
  • Strong support towards UWV: Supports with a WIA application or expert opinion
  • Better chance of success in the reintegration process: If the process continues, it is better suited to the employee

What is being investigated?

A feasibility study is more thorough than an interview or a quick scan. It usually consists of:

  • Intake with employee, employer and case manager
  • Analysis of medical and occupational health data
  • Assessment of motivation, resilience and competences
  • Exploring the labor market: which jobs are realistic?
  • File check: does all documentation comply with the Gatekeeper Improvement Act?
  • Clear report with advice on (un) feasibility

The final report can be used to substantiate next steps, such as stopping the reintegration process or starting a WIA application.

What happens after the feasibility study?

Based on the results, several scenarios are possible:

  • The second track process is being started: there are plenty of options for mediation
  • The second track is being paused for now: there are barriers that need to be addressed first
  • The report supports a WIA request
  • The UWV uses the research in an expert opinion

Please note: the opinion of the company doctor and the UWV remains leading, but the feasibility study strengthens the file considerably.
