Track 2 too heavy? This is what you can do if the process is too much for you

Does your track 2 route feel like too much of a load? You are not alone. Reintegration is important — but should never be at the expense of your recovery. Find out what your rights are, when you can take action and how to be stronger here.

What does it mean if track 2 is “too heavy”?

Second track reintegration is intended to guide you back to work in a feasible and sustainable way. But sometimes it feels second railway line as a burden instead of a step forward. Think of too many appointments, high pressure to apply, or job offers that far exceed your resilience. When reintegration hampers your recovery, the process is too difficult.

Reintegration should never jeopardize your recovery. Are you signaling overload? Then ring the bell on time.

Employee rights in case of overload

As an employee, you have rights within the reintegration process, even if you have been ill for a long time. You are obliged to cooperate, but not at the expense of your health.

  • You may indicate that the process is too difficult
  • You have the right to consult with the company doctor
  • You may request an adjustment to the reintegration plan
  • You can request a second opinion from the UWV

Role of the company doctor in a process that is too difficult

The company doctor assesses your medical resilience. Do you find the process too burdensome? Then it is crucial to discuss this with the company doctor. It can:

  • capture your limitations objectively
  • have the reintegration plan updated
  • advising on temporarily scaling down or pausing

💡 Please note: a company doctor is independent. So you can share your concerns here in confidence.

What if your concerns aren't taken seriously?

Are you unable to hear from your employer or coach? Then there are further steps possible:

  • Request an expert opinion from the UWV — They assess whether the process is appropriate.
  • File an objection to the reintegration plan — This can be done with the help of a lawyer.
  • Contact a career specialist or trade union — They can advise you about your position.

Signs that your reintegration is too difficult

It's not always easy to tell if something is “too heavy”. Note these signs:

  • You continuously experience stress or insomnia due to reintegration
  • Your complaints are increasing instead of decreasing
  • The idea of returning to work makes you emotional or anxious
  • The requirements feel like 'must' instead of 'building'

Do you feel recognition? Then it is time to start the conversation.

What can you do yourself?

You are not alone. You can do this yourself if your second track process requires too much of you:

  1. Discuss your concerns with the company doctor
  2. Request a reassessment or adjustment of the plan of action
  3. Get help from an independent career coach
  4. Get advice from a lawyer or trade union
  5. Consider temporarily pausing or adjusting your journey
