What is the reintegration interview?
A reintegration interview is a conversation between employer and employee about returning to work after a long illness. During this conversation, the options, wishes and next steps regarding reintegration will be discussed. The conversation is a crucial moment in a second track process.
When does a reintegration interview take place?
A reintegration interview is held as soon as it is clear that the employee is partially employable again. That may be at the start of 2nd track reintegration, after a period of complete absenteeism or if there are changes in resilience. The conversation preferably takes place in consultation with the company doctor or based on the Problem Analysis.
What do you discuss during a reintegration interview?
During the reintegration interview, you will discuss, among other things:
- To what extent the employee can (partially) work again
- Which tasks or functions are appropriate
- The desired end goal of the reintegration
- The structure of hours and activities
- Any barriers, restrictions or doubts
- Who takes what actions and when
This information is laid down in the Plan of Action and evaluated during the mandatory progress discussions.
Why is this conversation important?
A good reintegration interview:
- Creates clarity and prevents misunderstandings
- Strengthens trust between employer and employee
- Lies the basis for realistic and achievable agreements
- Supports building work rhythm and motivation
- Contributes to a careful reintegration file, important to the UWV
Tips for an effective reintegration interview
- Ensure an open and safe atmosphere
Give space for the employee's concerns, doubts or questions. - Discuss goals and feasibility
What is realistic, what is desirable and what is medically responsible? - Record everything in writing
Name concrete actions, dates, responsibilities and evaluation moments. - Also discuss the “what if”
What do you do if the structure stagnates or goals are not attainable? - Repeat the conversation regularly
Progress interviews are required by law: at least every 6 weeks.
